The initials MR2 are said to stand for mid engine, rear wheel drive, two seater. The Toyota MR2 was the first mid engine car to be mass produced from Japan.

The second generation (Mark II) MR2 was produced from 1990-1999 and featured improvements over the previous generation such as a longer, wider wheelbase and smoother body lines.
